    Question word order

In questions, the auxiliary or be-verb must come before the subject (e.g. 'What are you doing?', not 'What you are doing?' or 'What you doing?').

Confirmation question tags: auxiliary + opposite polarity

The usual confirmation tag, used to check what you think is true, repeats the auxiliary with opposite polarity: You haven't seen it, have you? She likes tea, doesn't she? Without an auxiliary, use do, does or did. Same-polarity tags are also possible, for example to express surprise or interest; this lesson practises opposite-polarity confirmation tags.

    Embedded questions: no inversion

Inside a reporting clause (I wonder, she asked), use statement word order: She asked where I bought my jacket, not where did I buy.
